Amayzing May - The Life and Work of May Howlett (Biography)

By Jeanell Carrigan

Regular price $25.00 Sale

This book is dedicated to May Howlett, brilliant composer and performer, who deserves to have a lasting tribute written about her life, her work on the stage and her music.

Commencing at the age of two, May was already tap dancing and appearing on stage and in her early years had a successful career under her belt. ... She excelled as a singer and as a pianist and received accolades in her years at the Melbourne Conservatorium. She also added acting on stage to her many achievements and a national tour with Barry Humphries as his accompanist. ... May has written such beautiful music, performed worldwide and broadcast regularly. (Ann Carr-Boyd)

The book also includes sample sheet music and QR codes of many recordings.

Australian Piano Anthology for the 21st Century - Vol. One - CD

    By Katie Zhukov

    Regular price $25.00 Sale

Piano music by Australian composers played by Katie Zhukov.
It became apparent that there was a need for new piano works which represented contemporary Australian composers.  Wirripang approached its composers who, with their magnificient response, produced so many excellent works. 46 compositions were finally chosen, edited and critiqued by Katie Zhukov, and were embodied in three albums of sheet music each accompanied by a CD of the pieces recorded by Katie.
It was from these recordings by Katie that this CD evolved. It is a collection of very pleasant, listenable and varied piano music and representative of the very high standard of work being written by Wirripang Australian composers.

                Baroqua Rag, The

                By May Howlett

                Regular price $15.00 Sale

                Solo piano, c.1.50, Grade 4
The Baroqua Rag constitutes a nod at some of the technical features of Baroque composition, such as the pedal note, applied to the characteristic rhythmic patterns of the Rag, an early form of jazz. By using a well-known theme from JS Bach, arguably the greatest exponent of Baroque music, a link is formed to the concept of Bach, held by some, as a precursor of jazz techniques in his use of free ranging and inventive modulations based on chromaticism, for instance.
