Hotel Quebec Tango

Regular price $23.00 Sale

For saxophone quartet, c.2'52

This piece was inspired by an essay in the 1939 autobiography "Wind, Sand and Stars" of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. He recalls the miraculous survival of a fellow pilot, Henri Guillaumet, who disappeared while flying the mail route across the Andes and was given up for dead. Guillaumet had been caught in a high altitude snowstorm and forced to land in a remote crater. Hotel, Quebec and Tango are part of the phonetic alphabet (Alfa Bravo Charlie) used internationally by pilots. I am almost certain that Guillaumet's biplane would have had a call sign, and I like to imagine it contained the letters HQT.
